In this study, the amplitudes best suited to compare four input de-vices are examined in the context of a pointer-based system con-trol interface for immersive virtual environments. The interfacesare based on a pen and tablet, a touch tablet, hand-tracking usingKinect and a Wii Nunchuk analog stick. This is done as a pre-liminary study in order to be able to compare the interfaces withthe goal of evaluating them in the context of using virtual environ-ments in a class lecture. Five amplitudes are tested for each of thefour interfaces by having test participants mark menu elements inan eight-part radial menu using each combination of amplitude andinterface. The amplitudes to be used for future experiments werefound. Also, the movement times for the interfaces do not fit thepredictions of Fitts’ law.
